With reference to your letter of the 14th

July, 53852/38, proposing that an Inter-Departmental

meeting be held shortly to consider the possibility

of negotiating with the Chinese Government for the

sale to the British Government of the New Territories

of Hong Kong or for the extension of the present lease,

I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the

Admiralty to state, for the information of the Secretary

of State for the Colonies, that My Lords concur in the

proposal and will be glad to nominate representatives

to attend on their behalf when they are informed of the

time and place of the meeting.
